The Emerald Ash Borer
This insect attacks ash trees and can kill a tree in a matter of years. Signs to watch for: gradual death of the crown, loss of bark, small D-shaped holes in the trunk. Once the tree is severely damaged, felling is often the only solution.
Beech Bark Disease
This fungal disease attacks beech trees and spreads rapidly. Signs include dark spots on the bark, cracks, and gradual tree decline. Once infected, the beech tree often has to be cut down to prevent the disease from spreading to neighbouring trees.
